My husband, John Baccus, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's on January 20, 2020.
John accepted his fate with grace and his usual joy for life. However, as we had discussed many times in our forty-one years of a magical marriage, neither of us wanted to live life in a vegetative state. John was adamant that if his brain was diminished, he wanted to find a way to end his life on his own terms.
It took me two years to find a way to help my husband die.
This is John about a week before he died.
